Beauty In Darkness - By Mrinal Bhakuni

Updated: Apr 18, 2022

When I was young, I was a fearless child

I sought for beauty in the dark,

In the night sky, in the constellations and their twinkling

light..

I sought for beauty in the ‘zillion lights adorned villages’

surrounding the serene valley..

I sought for beauty in the tiny gleams of headlights lined

down the hill underneath the limitless sky…

I sought for beauty in the rattling sound of cicadas unseen in

the tall grass and in the pine trees illuminated with fireflies..

But as I grew older my definition of beauty changed..

I searched for beauty in people

I searched for beauty in smiles

I searched for beauty in ‘the temporary’

And now I seek for a change,

I aspire that fearless child.
