My submission represents the musical culture of Bangladesh, where music is a big part of the nation's identity and unity. It is a symbol of the expressive parts of my country that represent spirituality and storytelling. My submission is a depiction of the Ektara - a one-stringed musical instrument (where the naem is derived from Sanskrit words) that is played for folk/village music in Bangladesh, though it's also used in India, Pakistan, and Nepal. This photograph is inspired by a sunset in the Philippines. From the artist: "The Philippines is a tropical country; it only has sunny days and rainy days, so seeing a pink sky is one of a kind. I want to highlight the beautiful scenery of my country. I live in the countryside of the Philippines, and life is peaceful, but at the same time, it is not always pretty. No matter what happens, some things stay with you just by seeing them. That's why I share it.

While my piece does not explicitly represent the festival as a whole, this is one of the smaller moments while preparing for it. I believe it is a universal experience (maybe not all) for girls to look at their mums dressed up for occasions and realize how beautiful they truly are, and try to imitate a bit of that beauty in their own way.
